Edward was born in Scotland on January 10, 1988 to Douglas and Catriona McMillan and 5 years later, his younger brother Patrick aka Trick was born. Their parents exposed them to a mixture of muggle and wizarding world traditions and his childhood was fairly stable. While he was raised to appreciate Muggle culture, he feels that being a halfblood puts him at a disadvantage and feels the need to push himself twice as hard to "succeed" in the wizarding world.

Ed's childhood was relatively uneventful. He began showing signs of magic as a small child when he used to make sweets on high shelves float down to him. He "accidentally" turned a large twig into a snake, which seriously frightened some nearby muggle children. Though they lectured him about doing magic in front of muggles, this was a source of great amusement for his parents. He's a friendly guy and gets along with almost everyone. He did well enough in school, achieving the necessary OWL and NEWT scores to get him a job just about anywhere he might choose, but he also made time to socialize and play quidditch.

Quidditch has always been one of Ed's biggest passions, not just for the sport itself, but for the level of prestige playing on the House Team provided. He made captain in his fifth year and led his team to win the Quidditch Cup all three years that he captained them. Quidditch is one thing about Hogwarts Ed is really going to miss and if he doesn't achieve his goal of joining the Aurors now that he's finished school, he's likely to try out for one of the professional teams.

Ed is an outwardly friendly guy and, as such, has always had a lot of acquaintances and even a few people he's close to. One such friend, from the day they met on the train first year, was Ashleigh Barton, who shortly before winter holidays of their seventh year became his girlfriend. He'd grown tired of chasing after the girl he could never seem to land for anything long term (one Lucille Sharpe) and kissed Ash during a friendly picnic. Shortly after that chance action, the pair began dating exclusively and by the time they were getting ready to leave for home to spend Christmas with their families, he'd realized he was in love with her.

Happily, those feelings were returned and, while their relationship has not been without it's ups and downs (like the time he went behind her back to try and faciliate a lunch between the girl, her father, and the sister she'd just learned about, which definitely did not go over well), the pair is still going strong. Ed asked her to move in with him once they'd finished school and just over a month after settling into their new flat, he asked her to marry him. (she said yes!)

Now the couple is happily planning a future together, both looking for jobs within the ministry while they enjoy the beginnings of their adult life together.

Edward is a Capricorn. The traits emphasized here will be ambition, determination, discipline, and pragmatism. You can't make that castle in the sky if you don't build a solid foundation under it, and Capricorns excel at building foundations. (Actually, they excel at planning the foundations and directing others to do the grunt labour. It's not that they're afraid to get their hands dirty, but large work usually requires delegation and a staff, and Capricorns are managers more often than not.) While not flamboyant or showy about it, Capricorns still tend to be obsessive overachievers, a common trait in House Slytherin. Too, wizards born under the sign of Capricorn are good at being discreet, secretive, and diplomatic; whereas the Libra's diplomacy is based on charm and a desire for harmony, the Capricorn's diplomacy is based on the knowledge that being on good terms with people is extremely useful in getting one's way or finding out sensitive information.
